Privacy policy

How Astra IPTV uses local storage, iCloud and the connections needed to play your sources.

Last updated: 12 October 2026. Applies to Astra IPTV for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV (com.astra.iptv).

Who develops Astra

Astra IPTV is developed by Juan Cazalla Estrella. For app help or privacy questions, email juan.cazalla.17@gmail.com. You can also open a public issue. Do not post passwords, private playlists or personal information.

You do not create an Astra account. Credentials you enter belong to your content providers; your iCloud account belongs to Apple.

Data on your device

The app stores your playlists, catalog, favorites, history, playback progress, category organization and preferences to provide your library and resume playback. Connection details are stored in the system keychain. Playlist and content URLs may also contain credentials; do not share them.

Images and program guide data are cached. Local technical logs may contain player error codes. Astra has no advertising network and does not request the device advertising identifier. Usage statistics and crash reports are optional, as explained below. Trailers open outside Astra in YouTube or your browser, where Google’s privacy and advertising policies apply.

Private iCloud synchronization

When iCloud is available, the app syncs playlists, connection details, category organization, favorites, history, progress and settings to the private CloudKit database in your Apple account. This includes the URLs and credentials needed to download compatible sources again on another device. Each device downloads its own catalog. Locally imported M3U files must be imported again on another device; these files and video files are not uploaded.

Sync runs when you open the app, during use, when leaving if the system permits, and when requested in Settings. Demo mode does not sync. The developer has no dashboard for viewing the contents of your private database. Apple processes and stores this data under its iCloud terms and privacy policy.

Your sources and external services

To import playlists, load a guide or play content, Astra connects directly to the addresses you add. Servers receive requests, your IP address and any authentication details needed. Providers and image servers apply their own policies.

TMDB may receive a movie or series title and year, a content identifier, or cast and director names to complete information and images. MDBList may receive a content identifier to retrieve ratings when that integration is configured. These services receive the network requests necessary to answer those queries, including your IP address. Images hosted by third parties may also load, including the demo’s Unsplash images. Astra does not send your provider credentials to these services as part of metadata queries.

In the App Store version 1.0.0, tapping “Watch trailer” opens a validated YouTube link in the YouTube app or your browser. Astra does not embed or load the YouTube player. Earlier TestFlight builds may still use the embedded player; YouTube may collect device, playback and security information there.

Read the policies of TMDB, MDBList, Google/YouTube and Unsplash. Apple may manage system diagnostics according to your device privacy settings.

Optional analytics and diagnostics

Astra includes Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics, services provided by Google. When you first open a supported version, you can separately choose to share usage statistics and crash reports. Both options are initially off. All features work without sharing, and you can change your choice in Settings. Your choice stays on that device and is not synced through iCloud.

If you accept usage statistics, Analytics uses a pseudonymous installation identifier and collects device information, language, app version and approximate location derived from the IP address. We measure screens and features used, imports and refreshes, search result counts, favorites, playback controls, viewing time, buffering and error categories. We do not send titles, search text, playlists, provider names, URLs or credentials. We do not request GPS location or use the advertising identifier or IDFV; we do not link Google Ads or enable Google Signals.

If you accept diagnostics, Crashlytics collects crash stack traces, installation identifiers and technical device and app information. We also send nonfatal errors reduced to fixed categories, without provider error messages. Actions may appear as crash context if you also accept Analytics. Reports are not used for advertising.

Google processes this data to provide these services, potentially outside your country. See Firebase privacy information and Google’s privacy policy. These identifiers associate events from an installation and should not be considered anonymous data. Demo mode and development and test builds do not send this telemetry.

Disabling statistics stops collection and resets local Analytics data and its identifier. Disabling diagnostics stops reporting and deletes pending reports. This does not delete data already sent to Google. Analytics retains event and user data for 14 months, without automatically resetting that period for new activity; aggregate statistics may be kept longer. Under its policy, Crashlytics keeps stack traces and identifiers for 90 days before starting removal from live and backup systems. Earlier builds without these SDKs do not include this collection.

Retention and deletion

Your library is retained while you use the app and keep your playlists. You can delete a playlist in Settings. Astra removes its catalog, favorites, history and active credentials and syncs the deletion when iCloud is available. Technical deletion markers remain to prevent an offline device from restoring old data.

Manage iCloud data in your Apple account settings. Uninstalling the app does not guarantee deletion of iCloud data or persistent keychain entries. If you stop using Astra, delete your playlists first, allow the deletion to sync to your devices, and review your iCloud storage. Use the contact above for privacy questions. The developer cannot directly delete your private iCloud database.

If you contact support

Your email includes your address and any information you choose to share. It is used to respond to your inquiry. GitHub issues are public; do not include private information. Your email service and GitHub process these messages under their own terms.

This website and policy updates

This website includes no analytics, advertising, forms or first-party cookies. It is hosted by GitHub Pages, which may log technical visitor information under the GitHub privacy statement. Changes to this policy will be published here with an updated date.

Ratings, sharing and launch notifications

Astra keeps a device-local count of successful streams and rating-request dates to choose a suitable moment and limit frequency. This state does not identify content and is not synced. If you accept statistics, usage events include successful playback, rating-request attempts and opening sharing or support. A request does not show whether you rated the app. Sharing Astra includes only a public link with general campaign labels, never your playlists or credentials. If you request a launch notification, your email client prepares a message to the developer: you choose whether to send it. Your address is used to respond to that request, and you can ask for it to stop being used.
